Case: Sour Diesel Live Resin (wax)
File Date: 10/05/2016
Case No: 0053
I was a rookie the first time I met Xavier on his birthday. I knew it was his birthday because he had a cardboard sign around his neck made out of a pizza box that read, “Today Is My Birthday. Happy Birthday to Me!”
I remember thinking how clever this bum was so I asked him if every day was his birthday. Xavier replied with a dirty look when, at that very moment, a well-dressed woman on her way to work came right up to this smelly homeless guy, gave him a big hug and handed him a large box with a birthday cake in it. I could see the lettering on the cake - "Happy 3-0!" She wished him a very happy birthday and then went on her way. I must have been standing there looking like a slack-jawed idiot because Xavier took one look at me and burst out laughing. He couldn’t stop laughing, and pretty soon neither could I.
Method of Extraction: Butane
Form: Live Resin Wax
What is “Live Resin”?
Live Resin is a specific type of cannabis extract whereby fresh cannabis buds (i.e., buds not yet dried and cured) are harvested at their apex of maturity, cryogenically flash frozen under very cold temperatures and then used as the extraction material in the manufacturing process of that extract. The process of manufacturing Live Resin is an effort to retain as much of the fresh terpenoids (and cannabinoids) from the cannabis and capture them in the final product to provide a more complete terpene profile experience.
Type: Sativa-dominant Hybrid (90%/10%)
Genotype: Sour Diesel = Unknown
The lineage for true Sour Diesel (aka Sour D) is highly debated. It has been said to be a Chemdawg cut, a Diesel cut, a Diesel and Skunk #1 combo, and even a Diesel and NL cross. Most people give the breeder ChemDawg the credit for developing Sour D. Ed Rosenthal believes it may be a Chemo and Mexican Sativa cross.

Physical Characteristics: This sample consisted of opaque, gold-mustard colored, very thin slabs of soft and pliable wax.
Terpene Experience: In its intact state, the wax gives off a sour, pungent odor. When dabbed, this sample was especially smooth for a Sour D extract. The wax tasted of sweet fuel up front followed by a light sour pungency on the exhale.
TIP: To learn all about terpenes, see the Terpenes Library page.
Did this live resin wax sample provide a more nuanced and intense terpene experience when compared to a non-live resin wax?
I’ve had sour-d in most of its forms over the years. This live resin sample offered an excellent terpene experience. For me, a live resin should strive to offer the pure essence of a strain’s aromas and flavors in the final product, and this sample delivered. The intensity and complexity of the terpenes were very good in ways only a live resin can achieve.
Effects: The effects were classic Sour D; a complex mix of pure energy and trippyness. And, it’s the kind of high that comes in waves as it progresses. Great for mood control in low & moderate doses. May cause anxiety or raciness with new users in higher doses. This batch was a bit low in potency.
Duration of Effects: 2+ hours
May Help With: Helped with stress and as a creativity booster. May also help with gastrointestinal conditions, mood, focus, depression, anxiety, nausea, fatigue (and more)
A clean and flavorful live resin. What I particularly liked was its accentuated sweetness and subdued sour component. It’s often the reverse with the sourness taking over. The potency was a bit low though.

I've known Xavier exactly 34 birthday cupcakes from Southport Grocery.
And remember, the next time you turn around, turn around again...’cause I’ll be there.
